Culture has sold us lies and one of them is that men can’t have a voice in this conversation.

Culture has sold us lies and one of them is that men can’t have a voice in this conversation.

I read this quote on a blog by Save the Storks recently and it so poignantly summed up our thoughts lately at the pregnancy center.  We need men.  This movement that we are a part of needs men.  For far too long the world of unplanned pregnancies has been dominated with the idea that this is a women’s issue, so back off men- you don’t get to voice your opinion.

Here’s the deal, it IS a women’s issue.  However, it is also a man’s issue.  It’s an issue for all of humankind.  Every child in the womb has both a mother and a father.  In America, legally, the woman gets to decide the ultimate outcome of her pregnancy. Unfortunately, in claiming this legal right with such passion, we have actually silenced a very important and much needed voice…that child’s father.

God charged all of us to speak up, especially when we see injustice happening to those who can’t speak for themselves (Proverbs 31:8). At Hope, our thinking has shifted over the last few years.  When the Lord told Mary she would give birth to Jesus, he could have left Joseph out of it. After all, he was not even the biological father. But, He didn’t. God exemplified for us that the best situation for a child is to have an involved mother and father. He not only sent an angel to appear to Mary, but he sent an angel to Joseph, as well. He confirmed His will to both Mary and Joseph. This is an issue for both men and women.

When a woman contacts our center with an unplanned pregnancy, it is now our practice to encourage her to invite the father of the baby to her appointment.  He is asked to be part of the conversation.  While it may seem easier at times to leave him out, we want to follow God’s ultimate plan for successful families and that is for him to be involved.  Our trained male Client Advocates play a vital role in helping this often uncertain man become a supportive, loving father.

Men, we invite you into the conversation. We value your opinions and we value you. This movement needs you. Hope Pregnancy Care Center needs male volunteers. Where does one go and who can they call when their heart is pounding and they fear they might be pregnant? That is the question I personally faced, once upon a time, in my youth.  I remember the paralyzing fear and my heart racing with that possibility.  Unfortunately, at that time, there were only a handful of pregnancy care centers available in our country. I remember thinking that if I was in fact pregnant I would have no choice but to abort.  I ended up not being pregnant but will never forget the overwhelming feeling of being alone.  I had no idea who I could talk to, or who would help me.

Thankfully, today there are over 4,000 pregnancy resource centers in the US, and I am blessed to work at one.  I am so grateful to be able to see firsthand the care Hope PCC has for our clients and how ready we are to support women and men facing an unplanned pregnancy.

We educate women and their partners about their options with medically and scientifically resourced information with love, and most importantly without judgment.  I am so proud to be a part of the support, encouragement, and education for women who are in need.  My favorite part of the center is our Earn While You Learn Program for those who have chosen to continue their pregnancies. This program helps enable mommies and daddies to learn about being pregnant, how best to prepare for when their baby enters this world, and teaches valuable parenting skills.  The clients earn Mommy Money/Daddy Dollars while learning.  With this money they can shop in our beautiful boutique for a variety of baby items.

I hope everyone reading this will pass along the word to let friends, family, and our community know we are here and we truly care! If you or someone you know may be interested in becoming a client, you can learn more about us at our website or call 435.652.8343 for an appointment.

Stand Firm

In the beginning Adam and Eve were in perfect fellowship with God, eating from the tree of life. They felt no shame from their nakedness in the garden. I believe their nakedness symbolizes their complete openness with God and each other. They had nothing to hide about who they were, because they had no knowledge of good and evil, only abundant life from God. But then they ate from the forbidden tree. They hid from God, clothed their nakedness, and felt great guilt, all forgetting about God’s amazing love for them. But God had a plan from the beginning. Even though the world is immersed in sin and we feel it’s affects every day, it is still possible to live free of guilt and shame only through the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Galatians 5:1 NIV
