Sanctity of Human Life Sunday
January 22, 2023

Psalm 139: 13-16 (ESV)
For you formed my inward parts;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
We are reminded that all have been remarkably knit together by our creator.
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated the third Sunday of January as a day to recognize the sanctity of human life. We hope you’ll join us in recognizing and advocating for the Imago Dei: that is, the theological truth that all human life – from conception to natural death – is special, sacred, and knit together in the image of God.
Especially this year, on this side of Roe being overturned, it is more important than ever for us to lead with love, compassion, and truth on this issue. Although we may not know how the Supreme Court’s decision will play out in individual states, we do know that making abortion illegal doesn’t make it unthinkable, life decisions will always need life support, and there are still women and men dealing with consequences from past abortion decisions.
The following are some ideas and resources for how you can share about the Sanctity of Human Life with a grace-based, informed approach.
